Seminar Series June 2021

How can we achieve justice for women in prison?

Women’s prisons are full of victim-survivors of child abuse and sexual, domestic and family violence. Many have been misidentified as an aggressor by police and the courts when they are actually the person most in need of protection.

Being locked up can mean having children removed from your care, losing your home and belongings, facing removal from Australia and exposure to violence in custody.

Come along and hear about innovative programs working together to help criminalised women to stay safe, recover from trauma, have meaningful relationships with their children and re-establish themselves in the community.

Presented by:

Gloria Larman, CEO, Women’s Justice Network

Nicole Yade, General Manager, Lou’s Place (Always Mum)

Carolyn Jones, Senior Solicitor, Women’s Legal Service NSW (LEAP Program for Women)

Date: Wednesday 16 June 2021
